Description & Nutritional Value

Originally cultivated in Central America, from Mexico to Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. The smaller beans are thought to have been cultivated in Mexico as long as 7,000 years ago, while the larger beans were cultivated in Peru starting 8,000 years ago. High in protein, easy to grow, dry and cook, they have sustained mankind for millennia. Tendergreen Bush Beans definitely deserve their heirloom status; they have been a family staple since 1925! Good source of protein, dietary fiber, vitamins A and C.

How To Grow

Sow these seeds in intervals to have a continuous harvest, which is beneficial because each plant has a relatively short harvest window. Sow them about an inch below the soil surface. They need full sun and plenty of water. Rows between plants should be around 20 inches apart, and plants can be spaced 4” apart. Harvest the pods individually as they mature to keep plant productivity high. You can begin harvesting beans when they are about five to six inches long; this will usually be around fifty to seventy days.

How To Use

These bean seeds have a great taste, tender texture and stringless pod. Tendergreen bush beans are delicious fresh, frozen or canned. Featuring stringless pods, they are easy to get ready for cooking. The beans are best for eating when they are 15cm / 6in long. They are colored mid-green and as the pods develop they have splashes of purple on them which fade when cooked. The pods are stringless which makes them ideal when cooked or when sliced raw into a salad. The flavor is fresh and very tasty.
