Description & Nutritional Value

This bush-type plant produces good yields of flavorful Italian green beans. Excellent canning and freezing variety. An excellent choice for home gardens, farmer’s markets, and market growers. Improved disease resistance, strong vines, and slow development make this variety irresistible. Matures in 59 days. Like many other vegetables, green beans are a healthy addition to almost any eating plan because they are a low-calorie, low-fat energy source. They are also nutrient-dense, providing many beneficial vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants without many calories.

How To Grow

Direct sow Roman 2 green bean seeds outside at least 1 week after the last frost, since beans are quite sensitive to cold. They should be planted in rich, well drained soil with full sun exposure.  After germination, maintain soil moisture; beans have shallow roots, and need water at least once a week if the weather is dry. Expect your first beans about ten weeks after germination. Daily harvesting improves production; for best flavor and tenderness, pick the beans when they are no larger than a pencil in thickness, or from 4-8" long. Serve or preserve the same day you harvested them for the freshest taste.
