Lettuce Seed, Leaf Lettuce, Grand Rapids, Heirloom, NON-GMO Seeds

  • $2.59

A long standing favorite, Grand Rapids produces medium-large plants that have wavy, frilled, deeply cut, light green leaves. Nice uniformity. Perfect for cold-frames, greenhouse growing or in the garden of course. Crisp, tend and tasty. Resistant to heat and tipburn resistant. 1898 Nebraska Seed Co. Catalog says about Grand Rapids Lettuce.... "Grand Rapids Forcing: In the vicinity of Grand Rapids, Mich., this is the only variety they plant for forcing. It is an excellent sort." Grand Rapids lettuce is a loose-leaf, or leaf type, lettuce that develops crisp leaves loosely set on the plant's stalk.

Lettuce prefers cool weather where temperatures remain in a range from 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit from seed to harvest, which typically requires more than 50 days. In some parts of the country, this is nearly impossible to provide in an outside garden setting. Growing lettuce in containers indoors allows you to control the growing environment.

Zones 3-10 All seeds are packaged and for the current growing season.
