A smallish heat resistant zucchini squash that possesses a delicious flavor, Grey Zucchini has been a favorite of vegetable gardeners since the 1950's. Tends to produce a high yield of zucchini squash in the 6 inch range. Plant Grey Zucchini seeds just about anywhere, but this variety tends to thrive in the arid parts of the southwestern US, 45 days.  Harvest at six to eight inches. Bush-type plants with fruits are medium. Use Grey squash in the same manner as zucchini. It is perfect for sauté or grilling but you can also slice and layer with other summer vegetables and bake into a gratin, or  sauté with garlic and fresh herbs for a simple preparation, pickle or serve raw in green salads, serve fresh, very thinly sliced, topped with fresh cheese and herbs and add sliced squash to pizza and flatbread. Plant summer squash in the spring if you want a summer harvest, or if you want a fall harvest, plant it in the mid to late summer.

Plant winter squash in either late spring or in the height of summer. Plant your squash where they can receive full sun. Squash plants love to eat, so they need well-fertilized, rich soil that is well-drained. Fertilizing your squash as they grow will ensure a healthy, large harvest. Sow summer squash seeds 1 inch (1.25cm) deep, and sow winter squash seeds 1 inch (2.5cm) deep.
