  • $1.99

The Broadleaf Batavian endive is a leafy plant similar to lettuce with green leaves turning to white in the heart of the plant. The Broadleaf Batavian leaves are tightly packed on a 12-16" wide head that can grow up to 9" tall. The delicious leaves are broad and slightly curly. 85 days. Escarole type. Broad, slightly twisted outer leaves form around 12 to 16 inch, tight-packed heads. Very deep heart is well blanched, creamy-white, and buttery. Like other lettuces, Endive lettuce is a cool weather crop. But, Endive holds up better in hot weather than most other lettuces. Time your spring crop to mature prior to the onset of hot and humid weather. We recommend an indoor start in the spring for an early crop for your salad bowl.
