Planters Jumbo is a great tasting cantaloupe that has a firm rind, smooth heavy netting, and thick deep orange flesh. Planters Jumbo grows on a vigorous vine that does well in drought or high rainfall. Planters Jumbo is a heirloom variety that was first introduced back in 1954. They grow surprisingly well in the hottest and most humid of conditions. The plants will grow outwards, trailing the earth, to a length of roughly 10 feet long. They will grow to a height of only 2 feet tall however. Planters Jumbo Melon will produce sweet cantaloupe type fruits with a tan, meshed outer skin, and a creamy yellow-orange flesh. The fruits weigh anywhere between 4 to 5 pounds and can measure about 6 inches in diameter. Grown as an annual vine, the Planters Jumbo Melon will establish itself through the summer months, while temperatures are at their peak. Much like pumpkins and watermelons, they will flower before baring fruits.
