Delicious. No garden is complete without Serrano Peppers. This variety is a wonderful heirloom variety with good old-fashioned taste. The Serrano Pepper is a chili pepper that hails from the foothills of Puebla Mexico. In fact Serranias in Spanish means foothills. The flavor is bright and biting, with a delayed fuse.
Serrano Peppers are 2"-3" long and a 1/2" in diameter. Crisp, fresh flavor, it is the hottest pepper commonly available. Unripe peppers are green and turn a kaleidoscope of colors from red, brown, orange and yellow as they ripen. Serranos are smaller and hotter than a Jalapeno. These chiles are about five times hotter than jalapenos. I dry and chop these up for red pepper flakes to spice up a variety of dishes. Seeds can be sown directly into garden when soil is warm or started in containers and transplanted when several inches tall.
